The origin of rum can be dated back to as early as the 17th century and is often referred to as the ‘Nectar of the Caribbean’. Many stories date back centuries about rum and the importance of the spirit, specifically those relating to pirates. It has been said that pirates often relied on the spirit to boost their morale and relieve their thirst during their long travels. Additionally, rum also proved incredibly significant in helping battling scurvy – meaning it was an essential tool in their survival kit. Today is World Rum Day, so together let’s celebrate the rich heritage of this spirit by mixing up some delicious drinks!
