Keep Calm and Cook: Apple Crumble

The very first sweet recipe of our “Keep Calm and Cook” blog series is here!  

Now we have moved into Autumn and the temperature has drastically dropped, we thought it was important to be serving you up some of our favourite home comfort recipes! 

 Today’s recipe is one of a dessert that needs no introduction: the Apple Crumble. This classic dessert combines sugar and spice, and all things nice! 

Ingredients:  (For 6 servings 

-6 apples  

-150g golden caster sugar 

-150g plain flour  

-125g butter (leave at room temp. for 30min to soften) 

-Cinnamon (1 teaspoon) 

-1 lemon (for zest and juice) 

Instructions:  

-Preheat oven to 200°C  

-Peel and remove the core of the apples  

-Chop the apples into small chunks  

-Place onto an oven dish, sprinkle with cinnamon and lightly drizzle with lemon juice  

-Lightly add lemon zest to taste 

-In a large bowl, mix flour and golden caster sugar 

-Add the butter in small cubes and use your hands to mix everything together until the texture is similar to breadcrumbs 

-Top the apples with the crumble mix and place in oven for 30min  

Before serving, make sure to leave it to cool down. For an extra sweet touch, it is best served with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream on the side!  

The classic Apple Crumble is a perfect dessert to treat yourself and/or your family after a long week; the warmth and the spices somewhat bring a bit of comfort that we all need right now.
