Inspire head chef Karen Cuthbertson crowned LACA North East & Scotland School Chef of the Year 2019!

At Inspire Catering, exceeding expectations is at the core of all we do – whether it be for our clients, customers or staff, we pride ourselves in delivering the highest standard of both food and service. Therefore, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that last month, our head chef Karen Cuthbertson was crowned LACA North East & Scotland School Chef of the Year 2019 beating three other chefs to the title!

The contest took place at Doncaster College. The contestants were given a brief to prepare four portions of a main course and a dessert that would appeal to 11-year olds in school and were given a time of 90 minutes to prepare. Karen’s mouth-watering main course consisted of marinated chicken served on top of a basil sponge with rocket salad, followed by a carrot and banana cake pizza with date sauce for dessert.

Karen said: “I am so proud to have won the regional title while representing the school, Inspire Catering and, of course, my country, Scotland.  This just goes to show that hard work pays off in providing both appealing and nutritious meals for children. I tried out the menu at the school a few times and it went down excellent and was really well received by everybody!”

Being committed to producing top standard of food, Karen has been with Inspire for 2 Years and is based at The Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh. As head chef, Karen caters to 1200 pupils and staff every day, which is why The Mary Erskine school are delighted in the job that has been provided for them over the years.

LACA School Chef of the Year is the flagship event for school chefs to showcase their professional skills. It has been organised annually for over two decades by the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA) and is sponsored by McDougalls owned by Premier Foods.

Karen now qualifies to compete against eleven other Regional Champions in the National Final to be held on 7th March in Stratford upon Avon. We are excited to see how she gets on and will be supporting her all the way. Well done Karen!
